“PORTUGAL MAIS IGUAL” UNDER DEBATE ON INTERNATIONAL WOMEN’S DAY

The opening session will be chaired by Rosa Monteiro, Secretary of State for Citizenship and Equality

Next Monday, International Women’s Day, at 3:00 pm, the role of women in the technology sector will be debated, in the session Portugal Digital mais Igual – Iniciativas onde as mulheres (já) têm um lugar ativo, held by INCoDe.2030, in partnership with the Commission for Citizenship and Gender Equality, Estrutura de Missão Portugal Digital and .PT. The opening session will be chaired by Rosa Monteiro, Secretary of State for Citizenship and Equality.

What is the role of women and what can truly motivate them in the Technology sector? How can we reduce gender differences? What are the main challenges that women face in this area? How can we attract (even) more women to digital?

The reflection on these themes, as well as the presentation of initiatives and projects where women (already) have an active place, will be led by Luisa Ribeiro Lopes, Coordinator of the Inclusion Hub of the INCoDe.2030 Program and President of .PT, and will feature with the participation of MUDA – Movimento pela Utilização Digital Ativa, from CIP – Confederação Empresarial de Portugal, ENSICO – Associação para o Ensino da Computação, from CDI Portugal and APDC – Associação Portuguesa para o Desenvolvimento das Comunicações.

“Gender equality is one of the Sustainable Development Goals that the World has set out to achieve in 2030 and this equality has several dimensions. One of them is undoubtedly digital inclusion and the presence of women in science and technology. In Portugal, women represent less than 20% of ICT professionals. The deconstruction of stereotypes starts with education, training, sensitization, socialization within the family, school, society, the job market, and this takes time. We want a Digital Portugal, but a more equal Digital Portugal”, emphasizes Luisa Ribeiro Lopes, Coordinator of the Inclusion Axis of the INCoDe.2030 Program and President of .PT

If, on the one hand, digital is a generator of innovation and breaks down barriers, on the other hand, it has demonstrated that there is still a long way to go to achieve gender equality. It is a predominantly male area, deep in leadership. With this debate, it is intended to reinforce an goal that is lasting and transversal to the entire Portuguese society: a more active citizenship and a more qualified, empowered and egalitarian country, using the accelerated digital transformation to create transversal value.

The debate is scheduled for March 8, between 3 pm and 5 pm and can be watched live, through the INCoDe.2030 Program website (https://www.incode2030.gov.pt/).
