DIGITAL SKILLS OF PORTUGUESE TEACHERS

Promoter – Sara Dias Trindade

Action – Digital Skills of Portuguese Teachers

Description –The potential of digital technologies has brought new and exciting challenges for educational institutions and their teachers. One of the main challenges is related to the need to design new learning scenarios using the tools available on the social web. The focus is both on a new student model and on the new needs of the labor markets, which today seek, in their employees, skills that go beyond the foundational ones and that promote higher-order behaviors, assuming that it is increasingly necessary to adopt new strategies and new methodologies that promote pedagogical practices of emancipation, namely with a view to developing skills for the 21st century.

It is therefore essential that teachers acquire digital skills that allow them to use these technologies effectively. In the project “Avaliação das competências digitais dos docentes portugueses”, from CEIS20- Univ. de Coimbra, based on the results achieved, strategies were defined to be implemented in the sense of continuous training adequate to overcome the difficulties encountered, helping teachers to promote the aforementioned competences, complementing existing pedagogies and methodologies with new strategies focused on projects, research or adaptive learning methods.

In this sense, the UC’s E@D Unit hosts the 3 training workshops prepared within the scope of this project, with a view to filling the weaknesses and need for training in terms of digital assessment, training students in the use of digital and teaching and learning strategies in digital environments.

These Training Workshops were accredited by the CCPFCP, each lasting 25 hours, focusing on the development of skills in terms of the use of digital technologies to differentiate and personalize digital environments through diversified and innovative resources. Their main specific objectives are:

Action 1: Strategies for promoting digital skills in learning

– Prepare digital resources that allow students to develop and put into practice digital skills;

– Identify resources and strategies that make use of digital to adapt teaching strategies to students’ needs.

Action 2: Digital Ecosystems for Teaching and Learning.

– Prepare digital resources that allow students to be actively involved in the teaching-learning process;

– Integrate digital resources in the planning and implementation of teaching and learning strategies.

Action 3: Monitoring and evaluation strategies through digital resources and methods

– Prepare digital resources that allow the analysis of evidence of student competences as well as feedback on this evidence;

– Develop skills in terms of the use of digital technologies for formative and summative assessment.
