Action – BrainIdeas
Description – In a digital age where we have easy access to almost all information, it is important to recognize the value of Intellectual Property (IP) as a protection of creativity, innovation and entrepreneurship.
According to EUIPO (2016), 34% of young people in Portugal access digital content through illegal sources intentionally, with 13% doing so unintentionally. Thus, it is urgent that young people know the risks they run when using these illegal sources and the consequences that this represents, not only for themselves, but for the economy and innovation.
DECO intends to increase knowledge and respect for the value of IP, as a tool to protect creativity and innovation, with a view to changing behavior and decreasing interest in counterfeiting and piracy.
Thus, DECO will use its experience to develop an interactive IP board game as an awareness-raising tool that can be used by teachers to improve young people’s knowledge of IP and its benefits as well as the consequences of its violation.
8 training actions will be developed for teachers during the implementation of this project, in order to make them aware of the importance of this subject as well as to better understand the educational resource developed (interactive board game). After the training, each teacher should hold informational sessions with their students, applying the interactive board game, in order to better capture their attention.
DECO also wants to involve future teachers, organizing a cycle of conferences in Education Schools, with the main subject being IP, raising awareness of the importance of the theme and presenting the educational resource that can be used by these students when they start their professional activity.
The project will have an online area within the DECOJovem website (www.decojovem.pt), in order to provide content on the subject, as well as the interactive board game. This area can be accessed for free.
