Promoter – Maior Idade
Action – Maiores ON
Description –The pandemic caused by Covid-19 caused changes in social relationships, and the older population was among the age groups in which repercussions were felt more severely. And that’s where technology makes all the difference. Communication allows us to be informed, keep in touch with friends and family, reducing the feeling of isolation and access to many services without the need for travel and agglomerations.
This project aims to enhance the use of Information and Communication Technologies and combat loneliness in the pandemic situation currently experienced, in which isolation causes devastating effects on the older population.
The “Maiores On” project is divided into three phases:
1st Phase – Digital Literacy Classes, at the seniors’ home.
With the implementation of the project, the transfer of knowledge and technological skills was carried out, through information sessions at home, using a group of volunteers, equipped with all security conditions.
Following the registration, the interested parties identified and selected the topic on which they wanted to obtain “training” and, later, the volunteers went to their homes in order to provide them with knowledge for the use of new technologies and promote their training.
The possible topics on for “training” are the following:
Theme 1 – Communicating with friends and family online;
Theme 2 – Building a profile on Social Networks;
Theme 3 –Browsing and searching the Internet safely;
Theme 4 – Using the computer and the Internet;
Theme 5 – Images and Videos on the Internet.
The promotion of literacy was preferably carried out in open spaces with individual protection. In situations where a senior does not have any resources or knowledge in the field of Technologies, but nevertheless expresses a wish to establish contact with family members, technological equipment and teaching material are made available.
2nd Phase – Online sessions via Zoom
The second phase involves registering on the miONe platform, in which seniors will have access to an internet community, thus enabling the sharing of information, knowledge and holding of online meetings for debates and acquisition of new knowledge with the themes and interests of seniors. In these online meetings, socialization and learning will be the main focuses of the project, in order to promote greater care for Mental Health and autonomy, both harmed due to the Pandemic.
3rd Phase – Digital Literacy Classes
Last but not least, in the third phase, if the Pandemic allows it, meetings will be held in Municipality spaces, specifically adapted for classes on New Technologies. The technological equipment made available for the 1st phase of the project will be installed in the spaces and seniors in the community will have the opportunity to enroll in digital literacy classes.
This project has UA and Altice as partners.
