PROGRAM “DIGITAL EUROPE” PRESENTED AT THE CONFERENCE “LEADING THE DIGITAL DECADE”

On June 1 and 2, the virtual conference “Leading the Digital Decade” takes place, held by the European Commission and the Portuguese Presidency of the Council of the European Union, under the theme of the digital transformation of Europe by 2030.

This debate is intended to provide answers to questions such as: what should be the digital future in Europe? What are the goals for 2030, with regard to digital transformation? How can we be sure that we will achieve these goals?

The first day of the event will discuss the communication “2030 Digital Compass: the European way for the Digital Decade”, highlighting the presentation of the Lisbon Declaration, a contribution to the preparation of a proposal by the European Commission for a Joint Interinstitutional Declaration of Digital Principles, and the inauguration of the EllaLink submarine cable, which will be retransmitted from the cable’s site in Sines. This cable will provide high-capacity connectivity, interconnecting Europe and Latin America.

June 2 will be dedicated to the official launch of the Digital Europe Program, a European funding program that contributes around €7.6 billion aimed at accelerating the digital transition in Europe. This program is the first EU financial instrument entirely dedicated to European digital projects, with the aim of accelerating economic recovery and shaping digital transformation, benefiting citizens and companies in different areas: supercomputing, artificial intelligence, cybersecurity, digital skills technologies and use of digital technologies in the economy and society.
