THE THREE WINNERS OF ARQUIVO.PT AWARD 2021 ARE ALREADY KNOWN

In this 4th edition, the FCT, through its FCCN Unit, once again distinguished innovative research works on the information preserved by Arquivo.pt public service, with a total of €15,000 in prizes.

26 applications were received and the goal of demonstrating the usefulness of Arquivo.pt was kept, as well as reinforcing the importance of preserving the information published on the web as a source of research and knowledge.

The prizes will be delivered on June 30, at 5:15 pm, at the Lisbon Congress Center, during the closing of the 2021 Science Meeting.

The three winning projects were:

1st Place – “Major Minors

The “Major Minors” project, by researchers at University of Minho, Paulo Martins and Leandro Costa, ensures a prize worth €10,000. It is a platform created with the aim of mapping the representation of minority groups in the Portuguese media landscape and consists of an ontological database that aggregates press clippings with reference to social minorities.

2nd Place – “Politiques

The “Politiques” tool, created by David Batista, is awarded with the second prize, worth €3,000. The work consists of a platform, which allows researching relationships of support or opposition between personalities and political parties. These links are established through the analysis of news titles preserved on Arquivo.pt and it has a database that includes around 1400 Portuguese personalities, affiliated with political parties and with public offices in Portugal, among others.

3rd Place– “Primeiras páginas de jornais online portuguesas

The work “Primeiras páginas de jornais online portuguesas”, by designer Susana Parreira, got the third place, with a prize of €2,000, and the honorable mention award given by the media partner Jornal Público. The project consists of a platform, which performs an interactive analysis of the graphic design of the front pages of Portuguese online newspapers over time.
